For 35 years I was a computer operating system support specialist, and I often called myself a nerd. But geeks were the strange people who wrote the software.

Nerds could represent the company to customers; geeks you kept in a back room and sent them periodic memos reminding them to wear shoes.

I’ve worked with computers for nearly 23 years, never considered myself a computer nerd or geek but, well schooled myself on the use of them

Been working with or on computers since 1982. Still don’t know nearly enough about them to be considered a nerd or a geek. Which is not to say I don’t know my job, just that it’s hard to continually keep up with the advances in IT unless you bury yourself in it.
