That bimbo colleague is just so typical!
And the way the shades come off - shells grow and molt all the time in this city, and Corey draws it well.
I’m just delighted with what I’ve seen today (which is everything on BL since July) … the light/dark and foreground/background in almost every strip are real, and really cool; the dialogue rings true even while we’re still slightly mystified, and Delores is hot.
What could be better?
You are aware, in this new beginning, her divorce is only hours old! Some women may celebrate, but most get depressed about it, especially when the guys around her use it as an excuse to hit on her immediately.
Of course, since she’s Sabrina’s daughter, she made out like a fat rat in a cheese factory in the settlement. Which is why she was able to take a low-paying job in the Catskills for the scenery and the fun of it.
Fake_Rockstar Guys, I’ll post a new Barkeater Lake soon. It’s just gonna have to be a “when I have time” kinda thing for the first few weeks. #work #work
Maybe, if there is a next time for the reruns, we could be given a better idea of what a ‘22 week season’ means. One post every 22 days? 22 weeks between posts? Yes, I do understand that he gets paid for other things and not for this. Just like I don’t get paid for overtime, but it’s expected - I expect to see a strip every once in a while.
Pandolph will break your heart over and over if you let him. I assume he’s off somewhere, stoned out of his mind, and I check in once a week. I’m about to make it once every two weeks.
ok this is ridiculous. i’m taking it off my read list, and check in one a month. maybe i’ll get lucky. i understand it’s “free” but how many times he has pulled this is unbelievable.

I’m out of here. This is frustrating, demeaning and just plain rude to the readership. Will check in a couple of months to see if there’s been any movement. Bookmark: Deleted.
Corey, I understand you’re having troubles, and I feel for you.
BUT!
You have over 21,000 people following this strip. A promise still means something. And you promised a new strip back in JULY. So we waited patiently. Sort of.
Either tell us you have to quit drawing it for something that makes money for you (we’ll understand) or just find the time to do it (which we’ll love to see.)
I’m wondering what he did during that last break, where we thought he was working on a bunch of new strips for this round.
Guess the Makers Mark bottle speaks louder than the fans who keep hitting their head against their keyboards thinking a new strip would be posted soon.
Hell, this delay is just typical Corey. I’m still waiting for Corey to provide the two cartoons I BOUGHT and PAID FOR, six (??) MONTHS ago… or give me my bleeep money back. Lots of emails with promises, promises, but nothing. He even said he’d sent them, priority mail, but the post office has no record whatsoever of them arriving here and he’s NEVER gotten back to me with the shipping information (which leads me to believe that he didn’t actually send them to me, but rather just said he did).
I just deleted Barkeater Lake from My Comics page. It doesn’t look like Corey is very dependable. Saying it totally sucks would be a huge understatement!
New strips are in the works, folks. Barkeater Lake is a labor of love and labors of love hardly ever pay, so we get to it when we can.
as I said before I get the free thing, but then why post an update schedule, and then disappear. he doesn’t even post here to let people know what’s going on.
Yeah, I’m also tired of Coreys B.S. I guess I’m not the only person who thought he was actually building up a stockpile of strips while on his hiatus. But no…comes out with one or two strips and disappears…puts a couple of lame excuses on Twitter, but nothing here.
Hey Corey, how about taking a course in TIME MANAGEMENT?
Some of you seem to have been cheated, not just out of this comic, but out of money. If you really want to leave a comment for Corey, you can do it here (at his blog):
“I owe many of you books that still have yet to print. I will print and ship those collectionsas soon as I am financially able. I will do my best to keep you all updated on when and where they will print.”
Well, it’s almost November 1 and I have heard squat! Plus I’m out that money and still waiting on two books. Granted, I did get the one book. The other two weren’t that expensive, he “screwed” me out of $20 roughly. What makes me mad, was trying to help out a cartoonist who seemed down on his luck and who really does produce a great Barkeater Lake strip. Never again!
He goes on to say:
“Some of you will b i t c h and moan at my choice, accusing me of having a poor work ethic, etc. Some will call me a loser and a quitter. I don’t care, I don’t have to answer to any of you and the only thing I owe “my public” is PRODUCT PAID FOR!
Hmmm. Loyalty to the brand has nothing to do with anything unless it is Makers Mark.
Yes, I b** and moan when I’m promised a new strip at a particular date/time, and it doesn’t appear. Yes, I understand that getting paid is foremost in the world of work. Elderberries is there daily - yes, I know he gets paid for that.
However, a promise is a promise, whether it involves money or not. We were promised a 22 week season of a strip after a hiatus. We got what, 3? Not even close.
I got slammed on the old site for complaining about lack of consistency in posting new strips. I’m not hearing/seeing much support for Corey here. I think everyone is finally fed up.
Corey, you’re very talented, but you’ve lost some loyal readers with this stunt. Stop promising what you won’t deliver.
I’d say it’s been fun, but I’ve wasted too much of my time with this nonsense
ah, hawg, forgive me - my mistake! I thought you were simply arrogant, but now I know better! Thanks! I mean, it’s not just arrogance - there’s LOTS more wrong with someone who has to immediately revert to personal attack and name-calling when someone else has the temerity to merely disagree with him!
And unless you’re 70 or something, it looks sort of foolish for you to be calling me “youngster”.
Well, boys and girls, it has now been nearly a month and looks like we have had all of Barkeater Lake that we are likely to. I’m trying to get enthusiastic about Corey Pandolph’s other strip, “Toby”, but it’s not the same. Those of us who made some kind of connection withy Delores, Banks, Chuck and the rest of the BL crowd were luck to have this excellent strip while we did, and whatever the reason is that the artist has stopped, we should be grateful to him forthe laughs he gave us. Thanks for the rich and cerebral experience, Corey!
Yep, my first computer was an abacus. My first uniform in the service was a loin cloth and sandals, and we had to pull maintenance by brushing the woolly mammoths in the motor pool every week.
Seriously my first computer (that I bought new) was an old Timex Sinclair 1000. It had a thermal printer that used expensive, thermal paper rolls that were about 4 inches wide and used a cassette tape as the memory. The OS was ROM Basic. 1982. The military was using UNIX and FORTRAN back then.
I am old. The first computer I used regularly was an old TRS80 by Radio Shack back in the late 70s. Radio Shack used to be a leader in personal computing, even before Commodore and when Apple was too danged expensive, even back then with the Apple II costing $3,000 with 48K RAM (but it did have a 6-color display).
I think it should be obvious from all the comments and the fact that there hasn’t been a new strip from “Ink Slinger” Corey that he has a whole lot of pissed off fans. Corey might remember me chewing his bleeep out and calling him an “Ink Slinger” when his lame self stopped Barkeater the last time. Pandolph must have cobwebs for brains. Why? Because Barkeater Lake has been one of the best daily comics I have ever read. And I’m almost 54. If Pandolph had any brains he could have made Barkeater into a comic icon like Peanuts and some of the other old timers. The guy could make millions of dollars with this gig. Movies even. But he’s too unreliable to use a natural talent. Anyone who put together the original Barkeater Lake and then just walk away from it and all the fans is nothing short of a egotistical and totally misguided person. Truthfully, I would really like to see him get his act together and get with this ‘toon and take it to it’s profitable run. But I don’t think that Pandolph has the ‘nads or the proper attitude to do anything that takes more responsibility than just laying around on a couch stoned.
I love this comic strip. Look at that action sequence. Just look at it. That exploding volcano. That polar bear fighting off penguins. The zombies in New Orleans. Banks talking to the dog in Pooch Cafe. The little girl dressed up like a pangolin. Agnes riding the cows from Cow and Chicken. Just how does Corey come up with this stuff?
@Mark Cooper: I agree with all of your comments about the quality of BL, but I also know that selling it is a totally different gig. How do I know this? I started an IT company to produce and sell software that I (and a lot of other like-minded people I talked to) just knew was totally awesome, the best thing since sliced bread, etc.
Sadly the customers with the purse strings largely disagreed, and the company was wound up after a couple of years. From which I took away two main conclusions:
(1) Just because you like a product, doesn’t mean anyone will agree with you and buy it.
(2) It’s not enough to produce a product, you have to sell it too. And that needs a whole set of skills that not everyone has. Hence these skills are expensive.
Corey is an awesomely talented artist, but maybe less of a salesman. And that’s OK, ‘cos no-one can be expected to do everything (with the possible exception of TOBY). However, it’s no good saying someone “could make millions” if they can’t. It’s got very little to do with the quality of the product, however good. Sadly, you also have to persuade the people with the money that it’s worth actually shelling out for.
This morning BL had disappeared from my custom page, and it’s no longer in the A-Z comics listings. Wonder if Gocomics has run out of patience as well….
I expect you’re right, Mark. My old link still brings me here, but he’s gone from the A-Z list. Gocomics probably doesn’t need the grief. I can understand him keeping up with The Elderberries since it (presumably) pays, but finding the energy for Toby rather than BL? Just demonstrates how twisted his mind is – or maybe how he aims to destroy himself. So long Corey,
I actually dreamt last night that there was a new BL strip! Strange!! I don’t remember what was in it, but I had a thought. Why don’t we sad, unfulfilled BL enthusiasts write the strip ourselves? (OK, I heard someone in the back say, “Yeah, we could do it right here in the gym!” Stop it, I’m serious!) We could assign characters to ourselves and do the dialogue. Whaddya say, gang? I would even let Go Jints play, and for an Eagles fan, that’s a lot right now…
Hey jgcp1 - I’ll forgive you for being an Eagles fan - you do have some taste because you like BL :)
Actually my favorite t-shirt was one I saw in Philly - I’ll rephrase it, but I’m sure you’ll know what I changed:
I root for the Giants and ANYONE who beats the Cowboys!
Unfortunately, I don’t know that we, as a group, could match some of Corey’s good strips. As much as it pains me to say it, I think we’re doomed as BL fans to be hoping we’ll see SOMETHING at SOMETIME before the beginning of the next decade.
For sure, for sure. Living in England, I have to record the games and watch later in the week when the non-football members of my strange household don’t mind. The Big-D certainly got its clock cleaned last Sunday! :-) I grew up in Detroit, so the Lions have long been my back-up team and THAT has been a tough team to follow for a long time. How amazing that they currently have a better record than Dallas!
As for my brilliant idea, do you mean we’re all doomed to wander like Odysseus, looking for the lost comic strip? Grim
jgcp1: I’m not a follower of baseball, so I can’t help you with the Yankees. As for the Lions, I understand completely. I remember all those years where the Jints were not sure which way to run when they had the ball.
I’m hoping Corey will come to his senses, sober up and realize he has all these followers and fans who will buy books and read BL.
Hey, the season of miracles is coming up. Maybe the Giants, (or the Lions) will make the Super Bowl and Corey will bring back BL on a regular basis.
Hey, Go Jints! Exciting game on Monday. Living in England, I record it and watch bits whenever the other half is not around, so only saw the end last night. Strange - being Russian, you’d have thought that she would enjoy the jovial, good natured sportiness of our great American autumn sport, but she can’t see the point.
Iggles 27 - Jints 17
Bit I do not gloat. We have a date at the Meadowlands in a few weeks and I suspect that Manning will have sorted himself out a bit by then.
It seems to me that Corey has just plain moved on, and that’s the author’s right whether we fans of Barkeater Lake agree with his choice, or not.
I only hope that if he still owes anybody a book or a refund that he makes good on it before he totally lets go.
I’m still going to miss Barkeater Lake though. It was fresh, funny, and wry, and the characters were people (and dogs) that I actually came to care about.
Oh well, life ain’t fair. Move over one chair, please, Banks, I need a whiskey-and-bacon to go.
Nah, we thought of that. He’s buried himself somewhere with the Maker’s Mark and won’t be coming back.
It has been an honor and pleasure to speak with all of you. Hope we all get to find another comic as funny and smart as BL, but with a better percentage of postings.
Ok, so they never made a “Jaws”-type movie about a giant denizen of the air swooping down on unsuspecting tail-gaters in North Jersey, but if they did……….
Go Jints! Dude, I really feel for your team, but OMG what kind of a fourth quarter was THAT!? Gotta change my handle to Go Iggles. Deshawn Jackson… OMG!
WAIT, WAIT!!!!! Read the synopsis, boys and girls:
“Each 22 week season will focus on the next stumble of her decent into small town madness.”
OK, so the editor doesn’t know how to spell (at least not “descently”). That means he/she doesn’t know how to COUNT, does it? Somebody get a calendar, toot sweet! Fifty-two weeks less twenty-two… thirty weeks from last October 4. April 25th, 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You heard it here first, folks! Either the world will end or “Barkeater Lake” will return on Al Pacino’s birthday - how could we have possibly missed it?
hey, namenamename, if Corey got out of the webcomics game, does that mean he’s found completely unsuspecting readers in some other comics delivery form? Should they be warned?
Keep the faith, boys and girls. I’m betting that BL will return (for at least 22 weeks) before the NFL season starts in September and the Eagles begin their unstoppable march to the Superbowl…
jgcp1 which arc are you talking about? this one or the new one? I wish they would go back to repeating the series, I was enjoying catching up day by day.
..doesn’t matter, I heard the world is going to end on May 21, 2011, anyway…Hey, that’s the saturday of our May (Victoria Day) long weekend!! Crap, don’t you hate when that happens?…

Just how does Corey come up with this stuff?

corey, if you’re reading this stuff, how about an update about the strip, man?

Just my 2p’s worth.
Cheers

This morning BL had disappeared from my custom page, and it’s no longer in the A-Z comics listings. Wonder if Gocomics has run out of patience as well….
NotAllHere about 14 years ago
I expect you’re right, Mark. My old link still brings me here, but he’s gone from the A-Z list. Gocomics probably doesn’t need the grief. I can understand him keeping up with The Elderberries since it (presumably) pays, but finding the energy for Toby rather than BL? Just demonstrates how twisted his mind is – or maybe how he aims to destroy himself. So long Corey,
Akenta about 14 years ago
My link keep bringing me here too. Guess I could stop clicking on it. Time to check out The Elderberries.

I would even let Go Jints play, and for an Eagles fan, that’s a lot right now…
GoJints about 14 years ago
Hey jgcp1 - I’ll forgive you for being an Eagles fan - you do have some taste because you like BL :)
Actually my favorite t-shirt was one I saw in Philly - I’ll rephrase it, but I’m sure you’ll know what I changed:
I root for the Giants and ANYONE who beats the Cowboys!
Unfortunately, I don’t know that we, as a group, could match some of Corey’s good strips. As much as it pains me to say it, I think we’re doomed as BL fans to be hoping we’ll see SOMETHING at SOMETIME before the beginning of the next decade.
jgcp1 about 14 years ago
For sure, for sure. Living in England, I have to record the games and watch later in the week when the non-football members of my strange household don’t mind. The Big-D certainly got its clock cleaned last Sunday! :-) I grew up in Detroit, so the Lions have long been my back-up team and THAT has been a tough team to follow for a long time. How amazing that they currently have a better record than Dallas!
As for my brilliant idea, do you mean we’re all doomed to wander like Odysseus, looking for the lost comic strip? Grim
jgcp1 about 14 years ago
… BTW, what happened to the Yanks this season? Naturally, I was cheering for the Phils…
GoJints about 14 years ago
jgcp1: I’m not a follower of baseball, so I can’t help you with the Yankees.
We can only hope…

@etsisk, I think the only thing in error about that statement is the tense. It should be “is dead.”
etsisk about 14 years ago
nope - two posts in 24 hours… dying, not dead! oops! Make that THREE! :D
Akenta about 14 years ago
Can make it four, but what’s the point :-p Hi bmonk good to see you again!!
bmonk about 14 years ago
It was a short run, even for Pandolph.
jgcp1 about 14 years ago
Hey, Go Jints! Exciting game on Monday. Living in England, I record it and watch bits whenever the other half is not around, so only saw the end last night. Strange - being Russian, you’d have thought that she would enjoy the jovial, good natured sportiness of our great American autumn sport, but she can’t see the point.
Iggles 27 - Jints 17Bit I do not gloat. We have a date at the Meadowlands in a few weeks and I suspect that Manning will have sorted himself out a bit by then.

Miss this strip for sure!
etsisk about 14 years ago
is that a command or a suggestion or a personal comment?
I’m just asking, here… :)

personal comment. Never commented much at all, but did enjoy the strip.

there’s nothing to talk about - the comics have stopped…

I know, etsisk, and yet you, like me, are back here checking in on the comments :) (and no, I don’t know if that was grammatically correct)…:) :)

jgcp1 - sorry - was away for the holiday. the NFC EAst may be an interesting playoff scenario.
Sad that we keep coming back here hoping that Corey will wake up and smell the loyalty.
Oh well…
JustAnotherMichael about 14 years ago
It seems to me that Corey has just plain moved on, and that’s the author’s right whether we fans of Barkeater Lake agree with his choice, or not.
I only hope that if he still owes anybody a book or a refund that he makes good on it before he totally lets go.
I’m still going to miss Barkeater Lake though. It was fresh, funny, and wry, and the characters were people (and dogs) that I actually came to care about.
Oh well, life ain’t fair. Move over one chair, please, Banks, I need a whiskey-and-bacon to go.
iantheevil about 14 years ago
Maybe when Corey referred to 22-week seasons he meant one comic every 22 weeks?
GoJints about 14 years ago
Nah, we thought of that. He’s buried himself somewhere with the Maker’s Mark and won’t be coming back.
It has been an honor and pleasure to speak with all of you. Hope we all get to find another comic as funny and smart as BL, but with a better percentage of postings.
GO BIG BLUE!

See you next season.

happy new year all - you weren’t actually expecting new strips, were you? Even the comments are dropping off drastically…
namenamename almost 14 years ago
I think we can all go home now. Corey posted a comment on another cartoonist’s Facebook thread, and I quote:
“This is why I got out of the webcomics game”
Glean from that what you will. It would have been nice if he said something to us, though. Even a smell-ya-later.

bleeep Eagles! :-(
WAIT, WAIT!!!!!
Either the world will end or “Barkeater Lake” will return on Al Pacino’s birthday - how could we have possibly missed it?
jadoo823 almost 14 years ago
hey, namenamename, if Corey got out of the webcomics game, does that mean he’s found completely unsuspecting readers in some other comics delivery form? Should they be warned?
etsisk almost 14 years ago
nah - they’ll know soon enough…

Whoa! There is a new BL strip up at http://barkeaterlake.tumblr.com/
(I wasn’t sure at first if it was new or Corey was posting old ones there, but it had references to Lady Gaga and iPads).
