when I was a child, I kept a flashlight next to me to guard against ‘monsters’, now that I’m an old fart, I keep a flashlight next to me to avoid tripping over dogs and dog toys. The protection remains the same though the “monsters” keep changing. Sigh.

Having a reason to fear the dark, and having a reason to sleep with the parents aren’t the same thing. But, yeah, mutant beavers is a good fall-back.

When I was a kid, I convinced myself that monsters were afraid of cats and I was safe as long as I had a cat in bed with me
I still sleep better with a kitty

It’s not a fear of the dark that has my girl sleeping with me.

Monsters don’t like clean, sweet smelling places. A quick spray under the bed with an air freshener will scare them away.

The only thing I remember being scared of at night as a child was skeletons. Now, I especially like video games where you fight… skeletons! ☺
