Give him the application. Give him the job. Still don’t let him get the book. Then when the book is released, he gets to hand it out to all the other “wimpy kid” fans before he gets his copy, assuming there are any left.

When I was a kid, I was a bookstore rat. I hung out at the local (small) bookstore all the time and was on a first name basis with the owner. We were friends for years.
