Boy: If you can get me the "Wimpy Kid" book early, you'll change my life. Laura: How so? Boy: I'll be considered an insider. I'll have something that no other 5th grader has. Laura: What about this? Boy: James Joyce "Ulysses"? Laura: I guarantee no other 5th grader has that.

C’mon, help him out. How about Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

Ulysses is heavy reading for a 5th grader. Also not too bad as a start on a weight lifting program.

I was reading some advanced stuff in 5th grade, but not that.

My choice would have been “Catch 22”. It’s never too soon to learn that the majority of “authority figures” are self-interested incompetents, and it’s a funnier book than “Catcher In The Rye”…

Boy… after re-reading the last chapter, I think that boy’s parents are going to have a lot of explaining to do.

I agree with fritzoid. Aside from getting to read obscenities as part of a high school reading assignment, I got nothing out of “Catcher in The Rye.” “Catch 22” and “Slaughterhouse 5” were two I enjoyed, reading them on my own. After the movie came out, I reread Kurt Vonnegut’s book and had a better understanding.
