a “caber” is nothing more than a log. A “caber toss” is a Highland Sport ( think Braveheart ), where the strongest men in the clans gather to see who can toss the log the farthest.
I actually found curling to be a very interesting sport. I tuned in for a few minutes when it was on the winter Olympics, and with the help of their good analyst, I really got into the strategy of it. Watched the whole thing! But you’re right, Runar, it is almost as weird as golf, but more fun to watch than the luge.
Several years ago, on Home Improvement, Tim the Toolman participated in the caber toss. Right through the windows of a new station wagon, I think. Hilarious.

If George Lucas had been Scottish: Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi duel with light cabers.
Scotland is responsible for three of the oddest sports in the world: golf, curling and caber toss.

Curling during the winter olympics was definitely fun to watch–especially Ladies Norway vs Ladies Japan. It was rather like watching wookies vs ewoks.
