Auctions, Jason, auctions. You can sell stuff that you pick up randomly for big bucks. Somebody out there will want it. I once sold a Hyacinth Macaw for 17,000 gold.
BIGGERNATE91: Don’t know about people “mining” gold in WoW to sell on eBay, but in real life there are people who drive around the night before trash pick up each week, looking for scrap metal they can sell to recyclers – they’ve even been known to pick up old ACs so they can rip out the copper tubing. They’ll also pick up things (clothes, furniture, etc.) they can sell at rummage sales.
In Germany they almost have it down to a science. One day a week is Junking day. On that day you put out all of your stuff that you no longer want and people drive around and “shop” for what they want. You can find furniture, dishware, clothing almost anything. The stuff they put out is all top quality stuff and it is not trash.

Ah, back in the day when getting to 10 gold was somehow difficult.
