I’ve generally been able to detach cats by holding them in one arm while unhooking each paw separately with my other hand. It can still take a while. Depending on the fabric they’re hooked to, and their determination, reversing direction on them can also work. Pulling straight back the way The Woman seems to be doing is never going to work unless you don’t care about collateral damage.
I remember having a cat on my lap, and needing to reach the remote on the coffee table. I was able to get up in a crouch and waddle to the table with the cat dug in, and seat myself again with the cat still in place.
We have a wingback chair that still stands after many cats have left their mark(s). It’s a badge of pride for them and for us. If you are going to be a cat-person you gotta love those claws!

I think the Woman is fighting a losing battle trying to uproot a comfy kitty. Especially when it’s Elvis!

One of the most immovable objects in the world, a comfy cat especially a sleeping comfy cat :)

Might as well let ‘em sleep where they want – it’s easier on the furniture and they’ll do it anyway.

If she really wants him to let go of the Big Red Couch, she could vacuum it…

You can always give the electric can opener a tap in a pinch.

This has got to be the only comic that features real cats. What a flashback I got with remembering how cats grab on.

Elvis really has his claws dug in there.
I wonder why the woman wants him off the couch.

This is why cat people can’t have nice things – just nice cats.
