Will they e’er meet again? (Why yes, Tuslog1964 from yesterday. I do have some family history in Nauvoo… just on my mother’s side. No, everyone else, not my mothers’ side.)
For the first time since the day they met during the campfire night, Mike and Martha actually talk to each other. It’s nice to know the author does not actually believe preteen romance only involves holding hands and marching in silence around the summer camp at all hours of the day or night.
As for the kiss, I have to say “Ha!” to the naysayers of yesterday.
Martha does a pretty good job here. There is no awkwardness with noses bumping or any of the things I normally associate with first kisses. Martha goes in like a seasoned pro. Pretty good for a 12-year-old girl. She shoots, she scores and I think game, set and match go to Martha. Mike doesn’t even know what hit him.
The only problem is that when Michael gets home and tries to tell his friends of his encounter with his lady friend, they won’t believe that girls don’t have “cooties”.;-D
I remember my first kiss. It was in Teddy D’s attic. He and Joanne K and Terry M and myself were playing spin the bottle. When the bottle matched me up with Terry, we leaned forward and kissed on the lips. I remember the feeling. It was fast, dry, and his upper lip was really fuzzy.
For those who have read the series to the end [Spoiler alert]We know that later on Ellie feels that Mike and Martha may be getting too close so she sends Mike away for the summer and the romance ends (for various reasons). How much of that was inspired by reality?
I am surprised that there have been no “it’s just a comic” commenters as of late. They must have been on vacation last month when Thelma Baird died. Anyway, although it is just a comic, it is nice to see occasional strips that are nicer in nature than the “one gag a day” routine.

Warms the cockles of my heart. Though Gray’s Anatomy doesn’t have them listed as organs…

The problem isn’t his lips. His brain reset.

Hmmmm, first base at 12. Not bad, Mikey. Girl made the first move. Proof that Adam and Eve’s snake is still working his magic.
