Transcript:
Dad: Tia Carmen, what are you talking about? Tia Carmen: I found this on the couch. Dad: Tia Carmen, we would never put you... Baldo: Hey... I'm dumping this box of old junk out on the curb!
She didn’t find it on the couch, she found it stuffed behind the cushions. Like some forgotten flyer. And when it comes to my retirement, I will be looking for a good home to be in. I don’t have to worry about raking the leaves, shoveling the snow, doing the pluming when the bathroom is having issues. No way, that will be someone else job in about 20-30 years.
I’m sorry to say that my mother is in a home. However, she’s 90, with end-stage Parkenson’s and dementia (not Alzheimer’s, TYVM) and it just got to be too much for my sister and me to take care of her any longer. She’s well taken care of, comfortable, and we visit her as often as we can. It’s not so much what we wanted to do, but what we eventually HAD to do, because it was best for Mom. Tia Carmin, as long as you have your health, you have nothing to worry about because your family probably couldn’t manage without you.
My grandfather also has dementia (not Alzheimer’s) and still lives in his own home in PR. My uncle and a neighbor prepare his morning and evening meals and keep an eye out for him daily. His overall health is excellent (he’s 93 years old) if not for the dementia….

I hope to spend retirement time between VA and Mexico. Perhaps I will volunteer with the Zapatistas. But, no retirement homes for me!
