When a couple of now teenage boys in my extended family were still in middle school, in a well-off district,
they told me their friends liked to blow their lunch money, and more, at a nearby Starbucks.
10 year olds skipping food in favor of $4-plus mocha latte sugar-bombs with enough caffeine in each huge drink to keep an adult going for a week. Just great.
Luckily their mother packed lunches and said no to coffee.
One of them wanted his grandmother to give him his 11th or 12th birthday money ($40) on a Starbucks gift card so he could flash it there.
In spite of his promise not to buy anything caffeinated,
his request was unanimously vetoed by both parents and Grandma.
Usually a lunch box lunch from home with a thermos. At least until I’d drop it and break the glass inside the thermos. Occasionally got to buy a lunch if it was a real favorite.

The only lunch money I got in school was 30¢ for a little carton of milk to go with my homemade lunch.

$10 might get you a decent glass of wine, but you still have to eat something.

Poor kid. Had to subsist on actual food.
But he says he’s glad now cos he’s an athlete.

I got milk money when I went to school and that’s all. Unless those lunches are subsidized, I wouldn’t expect to get much if any change back.

I got a bag lunch from home. With a baloney sandwich. Needless to say I hated baloney for many years!!!

I also brought a lunch from home, with a thermos of milk.

Peter should also make sure that Elliot brings home the receipt, so he’ll know what Elliot spent the money on.
I answered Tony above, so here is today’s…
Second “Daddy’s Home” Question:
Did you get change?

Why is he still in school? Isn’t it summer there? No mention of summer school…
