When i worked for one, the best pickup day was after Christmas
Folks had what they replaced (tv’s, stereos, appliances) out, and a couple of 6-packs of beer or a bottle of booze as a Christmas bonus.
Gunther’s a pro! He has scavenging skills that paid employees can only hope to match!
