Why didn’t those students learn how to do laundry BEFORE they left for college? Less chances of stinking up the post office and mail truck as well as wasting money on postage.
Round ’63-64, I was one of those students…. About 20 minutes to walk to the Post Office (“returns” came directly to my dorm), and it was done. V.s. about two hours if you got lucky, not including running up and down three flights of stairs to use ONE washer and dryer in the dorm. $5ish to mail it. Only a couple bucks to DIY…. For what I paid to be there, laundry service (v.s. coin-op) should have been included….
Dan Paulun perhaps got his facts from Wikipedia: Here’s a short article I found there: The 1888 Moradabad Hail was a severe hailstorm that occurred on 30 April 1888 in Moradabad, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. One of the deadliest, it killed 246 people1 and 1600 cattle and sheep. Reportedly, the hailstones were as big as oranges and in some places accumulated to up to 2 feet in height.234
Prior to the advent of the American Bar Association, and the proliferation of Law Schools, an aspiring lawyer learned the law by ‘reading’ it, albeit under the tutelage of an established lawyer. Although, there were those enterprising sorts who undertook it on their own, and ‘practiced’ in out-of-the-way places, where there was ‘no law’, i.e. Deadwood, in the Dakota territory, and many of the Kansas ’cow-towns, and, of course, the (in)famous Judge Roy Bean, of Texas. So – not unheard of.

Corporations usually find it is cheaper to go to court (and then endlessly appeal) then to stop their practices.

Brought back memories of the dorm laundry room, freshman year, checking out all the cute girls, eating microwave popcorn, and maybe a little studying.

Where does that Dan Paulun get his ‘facts’? Sounds like he makes them up so they couldn’t be verified.

Years ago, there was a news story about a runner caught in a hailstorm. They showed a photo of him, covered with bruises.

Q: How do sailors get their laundry done? A: They throw their clothes overboard and wait for them to be washed ashore.
