Our family dog when I was growing up, Jake, was obsessive about chasing squirrels. If you so much as said the word “squirrel” in his presence, he went into full alert mode looking around for them.
About a month after we had to put him down, I was out walking around the neighborhood and saw a squirrel off in the distance. I have no idea where this came from, but I whispered, “Jake! Squirrel!” And almost immediately the squirrel froze, looked over his shoulder, and then tore off for the nearest tree like a bat out of hell.
I like to believe that, at that moment, Jake decided to come back and chase one more squirrel.

The only thing that makes them fun is when they run in front of the car… on purpose.

Squirrels are over-achievers. It’s important to remember that.

They’ve been getting pointers from the cats.
