At this point, Elizabeth is 8 years old. When my kids were that age they hated shopping with their mother too. While Elly may blame her lack of purchased items on Elizabeth, 8 is not a great age for window shopping. Elly’s comments about shoes being pretty and looking at dresses tell us that she is not there to buy, but just to look. That kind of shopping is tough for young kids. When you shop with a young kid, you need to go in, buy the item, and get out. That’s been my experience.

When I was a kid, my mom would actually tell me I was there to make sure she didn’t buy everything in the store!

At any age I did not like shopping. And it remains for me that way as a 60 year old man.

When I was a kid my mother would let us kids go to the toy section (older kids watching the younger) while she did her shopping. We all knew better than to touch anything but loved looking at the toys. As I got older I moved from the toy section to the music section. Going to the mall (the first enclosed mall in our state, which was built when I was about 5) was a “dress-up” affair, more akin to taking a walk in a fancy park with a little shopping added, and we all stayed together. Nowadays we don’t let our girls go off by themselves but try to make shopping fun for the whole family, and I think we succeed. We also avoid any of the malls.

I don’t remember shopping(beyond grocery shopping)with my Mother. What I do remember is the one time I went shoe shopping with my wife(8 hrs, innumerable stores and even more(seemed like)shoes), we came home with no shoes—informed wife that the next time she went shoe shopping, I was going fishing and probably would bring home more fish than shoe that she would bring home ! ! ! !

To this day, my wife is amazed that I can run into a store, buy something, be back out in five minutes. “But don’t you like to walk around and look at things?” “No”

Women Shop. Men know what they need and just buy it.

    Lynn’s Notes:

When my daughter reads this now, she’ll laugh out loud–she and I can spend a full day in a good mall and wish we had more time!

I think Ellie’s husband could recommend a nice specialist to fix those teeth of yours, Sharon. Do you a world of good. (if you have the time and patience…and a boat load of money…sigh)
