Up late because she was spying on her boss during his clandestine meeting with Cooper? She overheard Philo’s conversation about meeting someone, so maybe her journalist curiosity got the better of her. Though I don’t know how she would have found the where/when if that’s the case.
I don’t know how they can keep with the Java Jive when they’re an underground community sealed off from a world where vegetation, likely including any coffee plants, is gone. And likely importing coffee would be difficult, too.
Even though he didn’t like it, Marx helped put Jackrabbit in charge for the greater good. It appears the greater good is to break the conspiracy that is keeping Endtown from knowing that it’s not as helpless as it’s told. Jackrabbit knows there’s plenty of food, not just beans, but the newspaper and other influencers are saying there’s a food shortage. I think the prohibition on mutant products was part of it, and with that ended, the pig disappearances take its place to make the people think the shortage is dire. Philo and Cooper appear to be in on it, and probably Mallard. I don’t see how Mallard could not know about the surpluses while working with Security and saying he’s trying to come up with “vitamin cake” and other solutions to the “shortage”. He’s hiding a lot, including probably his former life and how much he had to do with the End and the mutations and the rats.

Up late researching and writing the article, or moonlighting on some nefarious plan, I wonder?

Next panel, Eve is standing outside the building and reaching up over the roof, saying: “Hey, he said the coffee was on the house!”

I’ve Always been Very Curious about the rats. And Foxwothy is getting cuter, or am I confusing him with someone else?
