In reality, Trump has NO IDEA how to negotiate. He is used to bullying by using expensive lawyers or buying favors from insiders. When negotiating with someone on an equal footing, he is just flat lost.
And when Trump negotiates on behalf of the country, he has NO AGENDA other than to make himself look good. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass whether Mexico will pay for a wall or not — all he wants is for the Mexican Prez to refrain from publicly refusing.

The worst part is, of course, that the Trump Disciples have not figured any of this out and it’s doubtful that they will.
They still believe Trump was talking to Putin about adoptions.
Because Trump cares so much about destitute children.
This president is clearly mentally unstable and apparently quite stupid. This is evidenced by the two recent phone transcripts where he thinks he can intimidate foreign leaders by force of will alone. The leaders he is talking to are intelligent, well briefed, and have a comprehensive game plan before they pick up the phone. Trump’s plan it wing it and bully them into submission. He doesn’t stand a chance. His mental state is a serious problem and being president, it has to potential of causing great harm to the republic and all of it’s citizens. He needs to be removed from the office of the president.My only problem with that is then we get Mike Pence who is a self righteous christian conservative with an ideology that was appropriate a hundred years ago coupled with republican control of the other two branches of government.
@theodore…given the circumstances, letting the republicans twist in the wind as they are being “led” by a mentally ill ignoramous with ADD is the best choice by far. It took two years for Watergate to result in Nixon’s resignation. Succession goes trumpy to Pence to Ryan. Pence is as you describe him, though not diagnostically mentally ill, he’s a religious ideologue. Ryan is a fraud, with little intellectual substance driven by objectivist ideological nonsense.
Let the republicans twist ever so slowly as they savor the essence of trump’s mental illness. Let them make excuses for the short fingered vulgarian. Let them fight amongst themselves and debate if the sky is blue and water is wet. If 2018 does not result in a democratic landslide, we are doomed as a country.

Republican gerrymandering to the nth degree (now for 26 states!), combined with the clear goal of voter suppression, and (let’s face it) vote manipulation, may give the Orange Menace (and/or his designated successor) more or less permanent control.
That vicious enemy of the people the media continues to print what the White house gives them. Every time Trump leaks something like this – his base rallies behind him and his fake indignation.
