Human perception is a strange thing; we tend not to accept anything unless we already understand it, and if we don’t understand a phenomenon we make up an explanation. When I was young ball lightning was considered mysterious and many people considered it a myth, ignoring the detailed reports. Today it is widely accepted even though we don’t quite understand how it supports itself. For almost two thousand years gorillas were sailors’ stories, in the same category as sea monsters.
Six-year-old Calvin is like so many people. God `SHOWING HIMSELF` is exactly what Jesus is all about! He came to show God`s love and divine nature (although it is easily discerned in creation) by paying at awful cost the death penalty we deserve for sin. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life…. And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
It’s not belief in a Creator I have issues with. Santa is another matter. Rearrange a few letters and you have Satan. Fancy that. Catch Drew Carrey’s spin on Christian holidays on youtube…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNlHCZkVZFA
The answer to why God can not answer your prayers or show him self to you is simple. We are all gods children and have free choice. If God answers your prayer he must answer all prayers for every one the same. The fact that one team wins does not mean HE is mad at the other time. HE can not take sides. Even in War the prayers of one side can not allow GOD to take the your side over their prayers. If HE shows himself to you then HE destroys your ability to make a free choice of right or wrong or how to do things.
Those who followed Buddha were often upset because he would not talk about God. He would gently tell them they were starting in the wrong place. The real problem is suffering, which is why people care if there is a God. It was an unnecessary complication for the Buddha. It still is.

Shouldn’t you at least be in junior high school before becoming so skeptical?

This is similar to Peanuts. Charles M. Schulz also used Saint Nick as a metaphor for God in some of the Peanuts strips.

OOO! Touche! Burn! I’m surprised more religious people can’t see the connection. If the one doesn’t exist, then the other…. It’s the same thing.

God did reveal Himself in human form to the world. That is what Christmas is all about!

Santa Claus (aka St. Nicholas) was a real person in the early history of Christianity.

Santa Claus should stick around and explain himself, that would help Calvin out a lot.

Santa and God? The questions are the same and the answers are the same.

Eventually kids figure out Santa is not real. If only the same thing would happen with this god bulllshit.

It’s a transition.. kids believe in Santa then grow up to believe in God.. same wishful thinking.

Definitely some bold philosophy for the funny pages. But Calvin and Hobbes was always a sneakily subversive strip.

When I was little, I often wonder if Santa Claus and Jesus knew each other.
Haha.
