Why not do a replay from the beginning the way Bill Watterson, Lynn Johnston, and even Gary Trudeau did? I just discovered your strip and was enjoying it, especially the ones with your new daughter in them. I’d read the replay.
Thank you Dan, and I wish you and your family the best. I can safely say that among the many comics I read daily (more than is good for me, no doubt), Beardo has been one of my favorites.
Dan, I really hate that you have decided to “Shave Off” your Beardo strip=(. Maybe in time, you will see that IT wants to GROW back into your, and our, lives? This strip has become so INGROWN into our lives. Even though it is a PRICKLY decision, I wish you the best! GROW on with your other strips and don’t be a GREYING stranger. Send us a tidbit when you can! Thanks for the great time!
I’ve only been around for the last few years, but it’s been a fun ride.good luck with your non-Beardo endeavors. I’ll be here, seething at your betrayal and plotting revenge. (jk)
I’ll miss Beardo. I admire this strip for its great art style, characters, and writing. While other strips are made with a rubber stamp (duplicate art every panel) and bad puns, Beardo had the appeal of genuine personal experience (practically autobio, right?). Looking forward to following your Touching Evil series and other work!
Sigh, why do the good ones always leave? I loved the feel of this strip: very human and humane. I nearly fell in love with Meg. The dogs are hilarious, and, oh yeah, the Beardo guy. Even though I’m probably old enough to be your father, I could still identify with him.
While I’ll miss the strip, I understand that kids take a LOT of time and effort. You’ll never regret a second spent with one, you will regret all the time you didn’t spend with them, even if they grow up to be wonderful people. Listen to the Voice-of-Experience.
Best of luck to you and yours in the future. We’ll be here if you ever need us. ;^{D}}}}>
I will miss this strip. However I will read your other works. You hinted in a strip a bit back this was coming. I enjoyed seeing you grow into a successful artist. It is funny anytime I go into a coffee shop I wonder what the person making my cold brew future holds. You reminded me of my younger and less mature self at the start of the strip. I am glad you never gave up on being a artist.
Beardo will be greatly missed. But I do look forward to your other masterpeices. Who knows? Perhaps Beardo may make a cameo appearance every now and then? Just a thought.
I’m sorry to hear this. I only discovered this strip a little over a year ago, and have been enjoying the new-parent story line. Best of luck with your other ventures.
I’m really going to miss Beardo. Thank you for providing me with so much entertainment and so many glimpses into your life. I’m sure there are infinite successes waiting for you. I wish you the best in finding the one that’s right for you!
Dan, I have enjoyed “Beardo” very much for the past few years. At age 43 after serous bouts with asthma and lots of courses of steroids I was finally able to grow a decent beard. Now at age 60 my beard is white but I keep it trimmed and feel I look better with it as does my wife. I am glad you shared your life, your marriage and daughter with us. Blessings to you and your precious family. Make sure to put them first always.
What can one say other than what @DAVEDSEL said just above?
But I’ll try…
Dan, this has been one of my top 10 strips ever since I hooked on a few years ago. Watching you wrestle with family life while trying to turn out funny cartoons has been appreciated very much.
Just one favor – what new comic strips will you be doing? I’d like to follow those too.
And, of course, goodbye for now – you and your family will be missed.
Like others, I will genuinely miss Beardo. I have routinely read (far too?) many comics strips over the years – but there are have been only a few that I have valued and respected, and it’s always sad and a wrench when they finally end. Many thanks for letting us all into your life, both highs and lows, in so many small, entertaining ways, Dan. All the best for the future.
Dear Dan…I’ve been following you since you were on the Sherpa site here at GoComics. Even then your work stood out as something extraordinary. And lately, especially in the strips with your daughter, the artwork has sometimes been breath-taking. I remember one strip where you showed Beardo walking through the house with her, and I just sat there for a while looking at and appreciating the perfectly-rendered reflections of the people and furniture in the waxed surface of the wood floors, with shadows and light over the top of that. I thought then that you might be about to out-grow doing a regular strip. I’m sure the change in how comics are supported financially (newspapers changing as they have) hasn’t made it especially lucrative to put that much effort into a daily strip either. But I am REALLY going to miss seeing your work!! Best of luck to you in all that you do, as you retool things. And blessings on you and your wife and daughter, all the days to come. Here’s to joy and laughter and love for you all.
Please leave us a link to your other works & for us late comers to Beardo. Also please put this strip into repeats. Thank you for all of the laughs, sighs, smiles & joy your comic has brought to us over the years and best of luck in your future endeavors!
Wow….to come back to the PC after 5 days off a PC! Sad, however, any changes we go through make us better people! Best wishes! You are a VERY good writer too!
