I think Watterson’s biggest issue was that he didn’t want Calvin and Hobbes to be used for profit, but instead to stand as art. I’m certainly not an expert on him and his beliefs, but he seemed to stand strong on keeping comics as an art form and if another artist is honoring C&H, then I don’t think he’d having a problem with it.
