If he’s calling that “immoral”, I don’t much care for his morals!
I don’t think much of that vet, either. Many vets who have clients they know are suffering financially but are still trying their best to take care of their pets usually give discounts on that kind of thing. My mom’s vet once even had a client work for him as a receptionist to pay off an emergency surgery for her cat (she got half the check, the other half went to pay the bill). When she got the bill paid off, the vet invited her to stay because she’d done such a good job - so it all turned out well, she got a job where she could take her cat to work (she had been laid off when the economy crashed, which was why she was short on money) and he got a good receptionist.
My vet is like that. He has given me discounts so many times. And any of my cats or dogs that I had to put down, he never once charged me! Plus he and his staff always sent a sympathy card individually signed by all of them!
I think in this case the issue should be quality of life over quantity. That is the question I face when I make these kind of decisions. WIll this improve the quality of ife for the dog or just prolong the suffering for all involved?
