I don’t think Hart ever believed that man descended from apes. These strips came out at the time Darwin’s theory was becoming popular, so Hart used it in many of his strips, but it is evident that he struggled to accept it himself, even lightly poking fun at it. But today’s strip is one of several that shows Hart was asking spiritual questions that later would bring him to faith in Jesus.
Er………Darwin’s (and all other scientists who have studied the matter) theory was popular long before Hart was BORN, let alone creating a comic strip about cavemen. (And, for that matter, does anybody REALLY like the later years of “BC” when Hart had those annoying pseudo-Christian characters cluttering up the strip?)
