Okay,I’m ready for the nasty replies. What Columbus did do, and for which he deserves historical credit, he used the premise that the earth was indeed round, set sail for India in order to make trade easier, and ended up locating two huge land masses that the Europeans were not aware of. It changed everything. Oh, you can also send nasty replies that the Vikings landed here first. However they didn’t stick around.
CEEJAY got the facts wrong. Columbus did not prove the earth was round. Everybody of import knew that. And he did NOT discover the continents. All he “discovered” were islands. Columbus underestimated the size of the earth. He would njever have tried if he had known the true size of the earth.

He was looking for a passage to India and instead stumbled across two subcontinents instead.

“We didn’t land on Plymouth Rock. It was already here, but they still landed it on us!”
