Dentists actually buy those boxes of “free” toothbrushes. However, we handed out candy instead and let our kids have as much as they wanted the first night then brush their teeth. Better to get it all at once.
Throw an electric toothbrush in my bag, some floss and several tubes of toothpaste, and then I will rate you. Maybe some mouth wash. And some teeth whitening strips….
I just purchased a couple of toothbrushes the other day ! Considering the cost of a good toothbrush, nowadays, as a parent, I’d welcome that Halloween treat for my kid. As a kid,…not-so-much !
My comment from last night and the one from yesterday disappeared too, so I guess that once again I was flagged and the monitor removed my comment and the comments of the people that responded to me . I miss the days when you used to only have comments removed if you used bad language or insulted someone.
So, here we go again. My comment (or something like it) repeated. Flag away flaggers!!
Would a bag of caramel corn like Michael has still have been a thing in 1988? I doubt it. I remember starting from the 1970s the rumor about candy poisoning/tampering had pushed parents to throw out all the homemade things. I have only seen pre-packaged candy for years, but maybe things were different in Canada in 1988.
For years we gave out a Halloween themed dental kit — with brush, paste, and floss included. One time, thinking the kids would be tired of getting toothbrushes, I decided to give out candy like everyone else. The next day, I got calls from a couple of parents asking what had happened to the toothbrushes! Apparently, they counted on Halloween, when every year their kids would get a new one.
Thanx Howtheduck, but I like it bold and where everyone can see it.
I don’t think a doctor would give out candy either, considering that in addition to tooth decay, sugar can also give you diabetes and high blood pressure.

Could be worse: sugar-free candy.

We gave out Wagon Wheels and toothbrushes last year. It was surprising how many kids were really happy to get a new toothbrush. :D

No, the question was “How many kids want to get toothbrushes?”, not "How many kids took the toothbrushes because that was all you were handing out? "

Seems to me a dentist giving out candy is a conflict of interest.

For some families, with budgets tight, this would be heaven sent.
