Comparing having your mother at home to having a dog at home is a low blow even for Michael. After the grief the family and the now, nonexistent John gave her for leaving, this is just an added insult. If I were Elly, I would turn around and call Sally saying, "You know I am suddenly feeling a lot better. You might say…
1. My illness has gone to the dogs. I am feeling diff-fur-ent.
2. I was feeling ruff, but now I am feeling more paw-sitive.
3. I thought I had stepped over to the bark side, but now I am ready to raise the ruff.
4. I think that person who called you before was my doggleganger.
That is why mothers now work outside the home. The family take the mothers for granted, expected them to wait hands and foot on them, and wait stand by for them in case they want something. They don’t need their mother – they only need a maid.

My hubby and I don’t always do the same thing, but we do something together. Just being in the same room tinkering away at a game or photo or watching t.v. can be nice.
I think this is a great example of characters saying what real humans never even put into complete thoughts. I think there’s truth to Michael’s statement, and I can relate to the feeling. However, I would be very surprised if any child ever voiced this because I don’t think it even gets fully formed in most kids’ minds. It stays as a feeling. My $0.02, anyway.

Elly should be glad they even want her around. Once they’re teenagers, they’ll be begging her to leave the house.

Hang in there! If history repeats, a classic strip is coming o/a Tue 24 – with possibly over 100 comments.

Funny, but it hurts just the same.

If Elly is considered a dog, then Michael is a pig.
