So, I’ve been wondering. Lupin can’t hear the vacuum, so does he just feel vibrations from it? Or is the fear of the Vacuum Monster just ingrained into all cats?
I always want to stress during any “upstairs noise” strips that in real life WE were the upstairs neighbors, with three cats. LOL!! Our neighbors (who are also friends of ours) were the ones downstairs, who had to put up with Lupin’s jumping and landing like a horse, all the cats zoomies, a toddler, and later a baby! By the time they joined the comic, I had shown the BCN crew interacting with windows on a ground floor, and so upstairs they went. However, in real life it was OUR vacuum THEY put up with! They were innocent in this, lol!!!!
I once had an upstairs neighbor who, I was convinced, used to practice her bowling at 3 AM every night. That is, until I met Mr. Big, her 22 lb. MaineCoon.
Poor Elvis. He thought he knew all the vacuum’s tricks and how to avoid them by hiding under the bed, etc. And suddenly, the vacuum has reached a new height of menace – It’s on the ceiling!!!
I can’t decide which is funnier, the second or last panel. Georgia’s talent is like Puck’s climbing—there simply is no competition. (I know, in the real world, she does have to compete with other artists. However, very few reach her constant level of artistic talent, humor, and humanity.
I am just thankful that my parents live in a ranch style house. Whenever I visit ( 3-4 days a week) their 175lb Great Dane is so happy to see me he does just like the boys. He runs around the living room and does zoomies. Then he does 5-6 circles before throwing himself on the floor, only to jump up and nuzzle me and whine so I’ll rub him and take him out to play. All the while the whole living room is shaking from his “activity”. I couldn’t imagine if they had downstairs neighbors. He might come crashing through.
I was Googling for best cat comics & couldn’t find Georgia’s art anywhere. Not very savvy on social media & was having trouble with my computer in trying to inform others of BCN. Failed miserably. Most of you are a lot smarter tech-wise. Georgia’s art should be the first thing found when Googling cat comics. If someone can lead the charge I’ll gladly chime in. There’s a standard to uphold here!
Elvis has truly mastered the boneless flat cat pose! I’ve seen my 13 pound tabby boy do that and ooze under furniture where no 13 pound cat should fit.
Oh, YES. That delightful feeling of being oh-so-needed, of being the one and only safe port in the world-ending storm: one of the top ten reasons for living with pets.
Breaking Cat News is my favorite comic strip. It is the first comic I read every morning. I reread it throughout the day and check in again before bed to ensure I have read it and most (if not all) of the days comments. Other commenters often clue me in on things I did not see at first.
I enjoy this pleasant community. I feel that together we are witness to the “early days” of what will be regarded as a classic – along the lines of Peanuts. Thank you for sharing your work and some bits of your life Georgia.

…artistic license means never having to say you’re sorry, when you throw your friends under the bus :)…

So did someone tell Elvis to “tear along the dotted line”?
This reminds me of the lines that trace the round about routes of the kids in Family Circus.

Lupin, go hide in the sink, so the big bad vacuum can’t see you!(“Where’s Lupin?”) :))
