A joke, I assume, because he only has one eye? Except it isn’t funny because it makes no sense. The left and right eyes are measured independently, with 20/20 being “normal” vision for either eye. So you could have 20/20 vision in your right eye, and still be blind in your left.
There was a trick I learned when flying airplanes. If you had to turn on the cockpit lights for any reason at night, close one eye to preserve its night vision. Apparently pirates wore eye patches for the same reason: to transition from sunlit decks to the dark areas below decks.
It seems to me that since he has lost an eye, lost a hand, and lost a leg in previous situations this is now ONE MORE situation in which he has learned a lesson and will have better foresight in the future (or will he?).
