Either Michael has written some deep, dark secret in this note; or it is some kind of prank letter and he wants her to open it somewhere else so whatever he has put in the letter doesn’t get on him too. Then in the final panel, he seems to be having second thoughts about pranking Martha.

Awwww, this brings back memories. The note I wanted to write him, and didn’t. How would he have responded?

I wrote a note like that. His sister told me he kept it under his boom box.

I wonder if kids still physically write notes like that. Or do they just “text” their love notes to each other? There is still something magical (I think), about someone handing you a handwritten note, folded up, that a text can never match. But hey, I’m old.

If you get to have a second life, I want to come back as a girl. Must be endless amusement.

He’s just worried she’ll like it and give him a peck on the cheek in public….

Mike was around thirteen when he started going out with Martha. This relationship will be off and on for about three years before Mike moves on to the next (and in my opinion far superior—also spoiler) girlfriend Rheta (am I spelling that right?) My question is—and this will also relate to the future of Liz and Blanthony (spoiler again) is why is Lynn starting relationships off at this age? A couple of dates yes and a quick kiss or two, but full on dating? Thirteen is too young for that. They are just hitting puberty.

Just ask her not to reveal what he’s written in there to her girlfriends who will spread it all over the school. If she does you’ll know she’s not trustworthy.

If he stupidly going to prank her he should apologize and run away.

I did this and said this. Didn’t you?

No, never had enough experience to do so.

Remember: fastest way to spread the word – telawoman!

Cartoon from way back: speaker at podium: “I’ve just been handed an important note : ‘Your fly is open’” (Always pre read before speaking a note!)
