I have a couple of dozen favorite authors that I cycle through waiting for new releases. In between, I read “new” authors looking for new favorites. I order them online from the local library and they bring them in from other libraries in the system if they don’t stock them.
I had a similar experience in 4th or 5th grade , as a punishment for acting up in class Sister Joan made me take a book home of her choosing from the class library and read it and do a book report on it and she clued my mother on it to make sure it happened . So there I was Saturday afternoon reading Jack London’s “Call Of The Wild” . OMG , the perfect book for me at that time , I was glued to my seat and read it in 3 hours or so. I was hooked and have been an avid reader my whole life.

You can’t miss the details like you can in a movie. And you can re-read it ’til it works.
