i spent my summers at the community park swinging on the swings, playing tetherball, softball, tennis, and box hockey with popsicle sticks. there were park supervisors that kept watch over everyone. it was a very rare occurrence when someone would cause any trouble; a lot of fun / fond memories from back in the 50s / 60s.
Between the feds and many states, the right to parent has slowly but surely is being taken away. In our state, even if the child is 12 and the park is a block away, a parent or legal guardian MUST accompany the child. If that same child is playing in the front yard, a parent or legal guardian MUST be present. If not, there is a good chance that a police officer and social welfare worker will be knocking on your door! Warning then child removed from home and parent/legal guardian arrested!!

We were semi free-range kids in the 1950s; just be home for dinner. That’s a scary thought now!
