I’m surprised he didn’t call the newspaper office already to complain about non delivery. My husband and I did a route and we were often late due to matters beyond our control, not just stopping off to chat. Weather, funeral processions, the newspaper office being late delivering the papers to us so we could begin the route, road construction, new deliveries that were never between point A and point B so were out of our way, all kinds of things delayed us but there were some people jumping on the phone 1 minute after the time we should’ve completed the route to complain. Did they really think we wanted to be out later than we needed to be?

Those WERE the days…..a morning and an evening paper.I was a kid back then, and nothing made me happier than getting comic strips twice a day!
