I do stop and ask directions. When I was stationed in Japan I had an atlas with both English and Kanji on it. I needed the Kanji more than the Japanese – I could try to match the Kanji on the map with the road signs. Most Japanese can at least read English even if they are hesitant to speak it (this might have changed – the young kids then, who are now adults, liked to practice their English with us.)
My wife and I were lost one night, so we stopped at a gas station and I asked for directions. The attendant took me by the arm, led me to the middle of the road, pointed down it and said, “Go – straight – ahead!”

Strangely, when I finally stop to ask directions, I usually find I’m already there.

Where is your sense of adventure – some of the most interesting times I’ve had was when I was lost.

2000 years ago, three men asked King Herod for directions to a stable, and all the babies in Bethlehem got killed off.
Can you really blame us men for being reluctant?
