There are some real old (I think 40’s or early 50’s) NFL films that show them playing with white footballs that had what were probably black stripes. (now NFL footballs have no stripes) Not sure but I always figured it had something to do with making the ball easier to see under the lights they had back then. Because if my memory is correct, I don’t recall seeing any film of day games with those footballs.
