I’ve had a saying for decades, “The media rarely lie, but they seldom tell the truth.” It’s all about ratings and if it bleeds it leads. There was a time when you could put faith in what Cronkite or Murrow said, now it’s National Enquirer quality journalism.

Every outlet, left and right, does it. It’s not so much what they put into their stories as it is what they leave out. As Mark Twain noted, “People who do not read the newspaper are uninformed. People who do read the newspaper are misinformed.”

Be a skeptic – don’t live in an echo chamber where all you hear are your own ideas. Tune into the other side and stomach it for as long as you can. Dig for your own facts and look for corroborating sources. Don’t depend on the media to do this work for you. Their objective is to entertain, not inform.
