My first grade teacher had us mail letters to ourselves. The entire class walked to a nearby branch to post them. Postage = 3¢. My hat is off to the USPS. Thanks for all the boredom I’ve sent across the world for pocket change.
When I was in elementary school, we had to write pen pal letters. The letters were kept short, talking about our families and what we liked doing and how different school life is there compared to here in the US. It was a fun experience and it makes me wonder if teachers would even consider doing this with kids now.
We send real cards for Christmas, and get a lot in return. I save the ones receive and use them as a list for this years cards. As I address them, I drop the old ones into the recycle bin.
I love that I thought my daughter about mailing christmas cards to loved ones. She took over when I forgot last year. I hope she continues now that she is a married woman.
Reminds me of the 100 Christmas card assembly line Mom, me & sis would have the 2nd week in Dec.. Mom would write the greeting on the card and address the envelope, sis would put the card in the envelope, and i’d seal it and slap on the stamp!

Don’t kids still use pens/pencils and paper in school?

You’ll be spending a small fortune on stamps, Marcy, but go for it.

Does anybody have any idea of how much fossil fuel we are burning to electrify the web?

My mom wasted a postage stamp and mailed letter to herself for the fun. I think the family have a mailbox at their home.
