‘Cosmo’, watch your mouth, a lot of times—if you are nice and polite an officer MIGHT let you go with a warning. It is when you do not give them the respect, that is their due, that they get all hostile and start throwing tickets around ! ! ! !
Used to be the receptionist at the local Community Service. Had a woman in there once complaining because she hadn’t had THAT much to drink and wasn’t going THAT much over the speed limit, and SO WHAT if she was on the wrong side of the 4-lane highway; it was 3:00 in the morning and there was hardly any traffic ANYWAY and why weren’t the police out chasing down some REAL criminals? I didn’t giver hr an answer.
Generally, the police are not encouraged to catch violent offenders.
Look, you have to catch them, cuff them, read them their rights, haul them in to the precinct, all at risk to life and limb (he is a violent offender after all). This costs personal time and money for the officer and all the employees who have to then process the offender, including lock-up, feeding, state-sponsored attorney, judges, bailiffs, etc.
Very expensive.
Now, you stop a guy for speeding, you write him a ticket, and you both go on with your day. 95% of the people will just mail in the fine, and that’s that.
Instead of a net LOSS, it’s a net GAIN.
And don’t let anybody tell you it’s for “Traffic Safety”. Maybe in 1950 it was, but not any more. Today, it’s a Profit Center.

He’s driving a De-Soto. The only way he was speeding is if he was driving in a parking zone

Speeding? In Cosmo’s car? I think perhaps he should take this to court.

It’s actually quite impressive just how many real criminals get caught because they commit a traffic violation.

Police don’t catch criminals, they catch suspects. You are not a criminal until convicted of a crime.
