Yes, all the tourists everywhere complain about the crowds.
Of themselves.
A couple close to me used to mail me weekly copies of their journals,
which they hoped to eventually publish, from their year of backpacking around the world.
France, Egypt, India, Bali, Japan…. etc etc….
almost every page whined about the crush of tourists, souvenir sellers, beggars, bicycles.
The modernization, lack of “authenticity”, the disappearance, in some places, of native attire.
They rejoiced in a few pristine beaches, little known hotels….
and got very angry when I suggested that they were part of those crowds,
and that if they crowed about an unspoiled spot, it could soon become packed with others just like themselves.
Get up early, be there right at opening time, enjoy the quiet. As well, go to secondary or tertiary sites, those barely mentioned in the guides, pushed at the back of your guidebook by the big crowd baiters. You will discover new things.
Keep in mind, if the Vatican were to sell off all these treasures and gold and other precious metals and gems they could feed the world.
