Not so much with squirrels, but with ground squirrels, certainly. They are brutal little dudes. I’ve seen an excess of twenty go into the burrows in fall and only two or three emerge in the spring.
There are two walnut trees on my property, and I have seen squirrels take walnuts from my property to my neighbor’s property to bury walnuts there. Much better to ruin the neighbor’s property rather than my property..
How to decide who becomes a brisket hot pocket first. Draw straws? A lottery? Eenie meenie minie moe, strike the skull with deathly blow, if he hollers do not cry, the bits and pieces make a delightful meat pie.
So now there is a Coopers Hawk in the area, which used to be the territory of a Redtail Hawk. The Coopers mostly eats mourning doves. When the redtail was around, there was a blue jay who took great pleasure in imitating the cry of a redtail hawk, when there was a gray squirrel crossing open ground. Apparently, squirrel panic is high comedy in blue jay circles.

Hmm. That puts the Big Question of life and death rather starkly into black-and-white terms, does it not?
Rats! They always get the big end of the stick (the better to beat them to death, as I saw my boss do in the place we were working)….
