Here in New England, a “grinder” is any sandwich on a long roll. Back in civilization where I was raised, North Jersey, a grinder is a sub that’s heated in the oven. In South Jersey, influenced by Philadelphia, you can get a hoagie. I have seen, in a national ad, someone order an Italian sub on a hoagie roll. Gotta cover all the bases.
Moondog’s approach is logical and practical, if in violation of Monty’s strict orthodoxy. Have what you want, when you want, and let tomorrow take care of itself….
Grinder? I once tried ordering a grinder from a lunch cart in Elizabeth N J and the guy looked at me like I was babbling. I looked at the menu board and said oh, hoagie. I’m assuming Monty still lives in Jersey.

MY warm-up was to fast the day before as much as I could bear.

You gotta understand – turkey is a forbidden pleasure for Moondog, having to sneak around Pilsner.
