Lent my truck to my brother. He told me he was smelling gas when driving. While dropping by his mechanics shop to see how his car repair was going he told the guy about the gas smell. The mechanic said it’s probably just a cracked fuel line. My brother insinuated that he would pay for it since he had been driving my truck for over a week. Next thing I know my brother calls and says it’s the fuel pump module, and will cost $500 to repair. He said the guy has already torn the car apart and ordered the part; all without input from me. So I finally call to pay the bill. Now the $500 estimate has turned into $687 final cost. No good deed goes unpunished.

I hope he has a defibrillator handy as well.

If the bill is close to the estimate (as it’s supposed to be), then the customer shouldn’t be so surprised.

Best to send them the bill to lower liability cost at the shop.
