Today’s deep divisions in the United States go back over 50 years, to the Johnson/Nixon Vietnam War era, and perhaps even further back to the Civil Rights Movement in the South.
It is a given that as we age, many people who start out as extreme liberals in youth become hardened conservatives as seniors. Those who were apolitical when young become more politically evolved as they mature and realize the impact government has upon their daily lives.
Others, unfortunately, live in blissful ignorance, following like sheep, without question, wherever their political party leaders and the media herd them. To mix metaphors, these lemmings are being led off the cliff that will not only bring their downfall, but that of the United States, if the rest of us don’t do something.
