Tortured use of language. A floe is a separate sheet of floating ice. If she was really on a floe, she’d be in deep trouble.
At least this is nowhere near as frightening as Lillian Gish’s dilemma in “Way Down East.” Now, THAT’S an ice floe!

Something similar happened to me while ice fishing on Lake St. Clair once… :)
