    This strip originally appeared on August 30, 1950. Earlier that month, On August 6, the NEW YORK TIMES had reported the decline in panic purchases and attributed the change to restored consumer confidence, an abundance of goods on store shelves, and “common sense”.

    The opening line of the story was as follows:

    A survey of the nation by THE NEW YORK TIMES disclosed yesterday that “scare buying” is on the wane. In most communities, even demands for sugar and nylons subsided fairly close to a reasonable point.
