Seriously, many Boomer rockers are paying the price in hearing loss for irresponsible bands.
Originally, garage bands played too loud on crappy equipment and it sounded distorted. People started associating the distortion with rock. Bands had to play louder and louder to get the same distortion with premium equipment. This continued long after the distortion could have simply been added electronically.
People went to concerts to meet other people and wound up more isolated than ever because it was IMPOSSIBLE to hold a conversation with anyone.
Now as the onset of hearing loss is accelerated in the aging population, additional isolation is added. This could be a real social problem if something like a pandemic came along …
Poco was the loudest band I ever heard. End of the concert, there was no call for an encore. Everyone silently gather their coats and belongings and quietly left. Hardly anyone said anything. We were inside, maybe the band was set to perform outside.

Huey Lewis is a primary example of the above. Can’t perform anymore due to hearing loss.
