for those who aren’t old enough, a Murphy bed is one where the bed folds up flat against the wall when not in use, freeing up a lot of floor space.

The only real trouble with water beds was that they were made of plastic. It was a plastic that degraded with time and the degradation was accelerated by heat . I had one for almost ten years. One day I rolled over and put my elbow through the plastic which had become brittle. Fortunately, I had a liner to capture the water.

It was fun when I was married but entirely too embryonic to sleep in by yourself. :)

What finally put an end to the fad, similar to what happened with nuclear power, was the insurance industry. They had the statistics on failure and raised the rates until it was too discouraging to own one.
