Must have gotten the ham hocks already and the collard greens.
Our going out will be to get the 3 year old grandson so mama and daddy can have a break/party. Best way to celebrate.
I already have the dried navy beans to go along with the ham hock for bean soup.
Lentils go well with that soup as well.
I only know one person who did this, she also insisted that one man at the party go out side just before midnight and come back in just after.

In my family, growing up in Baltimore, the New Year’s Day menu was very Teutonic: roast pork and sauerkraut (a/k/a German soul food).
