In a later strip Schulz would refer to Rachel Carson, a spearhead of the environmentalist movement, and have Lucy say “we girls need our heroines.” This would have been an excellent moment to have mentioned Carson’s blockbuster best-seller “The Sea Around Us,” which remains a classic that has never gone out of print.

Sally will one day look back on this day and laugh.
