Yeah, but Calvin never had to worry about where his next Tuna Fish Sandwich was coming from.

Calvin usually just has to look in a mirror to see an insolent smirk.

Tuna IS a fish. There isn’t any other Tuna. So why do you call it “Tuna Fish”. A tad redundant.

Sometimes redundancy can be used for emphasis, to help others really focus on the most important things in life. Tuna is one of those rare words that cannot be repeated often enough.

In today’s strip, the redundant phrase “wise tiger” also comes to mind…

Hobbes doesn’t look at all worried where his next tuna fish sandwich is coming from. That’s Calvin’s problem.

Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠.

“Where is it” vs. “where is it AT”; “water heater” vs. “HOT water heater”; ” exit the building” vs. “exit FROM the building”; “sea gull” vs. “gull”; lots of redundancies in our Americanized “English”. I wouldn’t worry about it, just do it the right way yourself and most folks will understand what you mean … and while it’s true that sometimes the extra words are used for emphasis, most often they are merely form of pretentiousness, and which falls flat on its face.

Being a stuffed animal certainly is a carefree life – as long as you don’t think about that inevitable day when your owner grows up. Just ask Winnie the Pooh, or Puff the Magic Dragon. (That’s the good thing about most comic strips – the kids never get any older, so the stuffed animals never get packed away in the attic…)

There are actually several definitions for tuna. Besides the fish, there is an eel and the fruit from the prickly pear cactus - both called tuna.

To RCMinor: actually, the dogfish is of the shark family - so it’s not truly a fish!

Teresa, I hear you. I don’t know about other markets, but the Chicago weathercasters likewise don’t seem to know that rain produces food on farms: no matter how long it’s been since we’ve had rain, any chance of showers is “bad” or a sad day in Chicagoland.

kkfin, but sharks are fish–albeit not bony fish.

I try to live wisely by eating right, exercising, and taking my vitamins. I’m the wife, mom, and grandmother which can take alot of me. Twice a week I have my day where I exercise with the girls, eat lunch, and then we go shopping together. As the kids would say, “It’s just how I roll!”
