That sounds like an excellent idea – I’ll ask Calvin what he thinks about it.

Now, I have to reveal something to you: Actually, I am the real Hobbes, but during the past few weeks, for the sake of some of the readers on this site, I have been pretending not to be Hobbes, by posing as simply a commentator named Hobbes. That’s because some of the readers got confused during November and December, when I was pretending to be a commentator who was pretending to be me. So, during January I’ve tried to greatly simplify everything for everyone (as is always my nature……. ) And by the way, for a couple of months there were also some readers who thought I was Bill Watterson pretending to be Hobbes. But I don’t pretend to be Bill Watterson.

There, that clears everything up. See, it all makes sense! …….. See? …… See??…………

If only Calvin could get Hobbes to provide testimony, maybe then his parents would believe him!

Ahh, the plight of all superheroes. After they save the world, who thanks them, or even pays for the repairs to their costumes? Better get used to it, Spaceman Spiff, and Tracer Bullet, and all your other alter-egos.

I had forgotten this sequence, so I was fully expecting mom and dad to burst out laughing. Love Calvin’s face in the last panel. He looks like a little old man.

He just needs to learn to give them more creditable stories, else go with plan B! It’s an important part of growing up!

HOBBES: I agree that you are not PRETENDING to be Bill Watterson. I still think you ARE Bill Watterson. Said so then, still think so. Otherwise, you are a mind reader who knows just what Calvin’s buddy is thinking.

No, I am not Bill Watterson. But being Hobbes, I have noticed that sometimes Bill Watterson does have a tendency to think like me. Maybe that’s the source of the confusion.

I’ve noticed that a lot of commentators on this site tend to think like Bill Watterson, and they also tend to have a sense of humor similar to his. I guess that’s partly what attracted them to reading “Calvin and Hobbes” in the first place.

I agree with Mythreesons I think that our “Hobbes” is really Bill Watterson even though he pretends to be Hobbes.

If he hadn’t coated them with ice, Calvin could have demonstrated that there are no mitten-prints on any of the goons except the first one.

One would hope that even in his retirement Bill Watterson would have better things to do than Hobbesian pontifications.

There are none so blind as will not see.

Years later Calvin will tell his therapist all about this and he will be put on new meds.

The look on his father’s face indicates the thought “school psychologist - starting next week”. For Calvin, of course, and maybe a stiff drink and a long walk with his wife for Dad to talk about it all…..

I can at least see–often–what Bill Watterson is thinking, but come up with these ideas? Not in a hundred and sixty four years. That’s why I am clearly not going to be tapped as an author.

I would prefer to let Hobbes in the Comic!! I get confused with so many Hobbeses!

The commentator Hobbes isn’t anything like Hobbes, though I’m sure whoever he/she is, they’re nice. ;-)

I’m gonna have to agree with HOBBES that he is not Bill Watterson. Not that I don’t appreciate his comments, it just doesn’t strike me as very Watterson-esque to disguise himself as Hobbes and claim that it is not just an internet alias. Doesn’t seem to go with his whole anti-liscensing view- all his deliberate efforts to keep Calvin and Hobbes out of media besides the comic strip. Also, I don’t perceive either Watterson or Hobbes as liars, so if he says he’s not, I don’t think he is.

That said, feel free to keep commenting, HOBBES. I think most of us enjoy reading what you have to say.

Hmmm……….. I guess I could try saying that I am Bill Watterson, so that Mythreesons would assume that I am not him, but then that would create the risk that someone else might believe me.

And I used to think that life with Calvin was complicated.

Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite… We used to call it “Zachary and Hobbes” because my brother is so much like Calvin… Only I was the one who had the Hobbes-like friend :)

When did C&H start on Go Comics? Was it in 2008 does anyone know?
