Am I missing something with this one?

This comic would have been better in color.

The missing part of the joke is that the color was named after the fruit.

Who came up with the name carrot, any way?

And I thought carrots had something to do with diamonds?

What’s in a name? Cow chips by any other name would smell just as bad. (yes I know, Shakespeare is having a cow in his grave right now)

I get the joke in panel 2, but I think it would have worked better if he was actually holding an orange instead of a carrot. But the joke in panel 4 eludes me. Why is a coconut misty?

i got it as B.C beat Thor to saying the name of his fruit, but Thor was going to name his (the real type) an orange too, so thor had to switch the name.

Misty refers to the spritz that comes of the orange as you peel it. Fresh oranges, anyway.

Since “orange” was now taken, he had to think of another name, and “Misty” was the first that came to mind.

Kinda like Calvin’s question, why is a fly called a fly, since it’s not the only thing that flies!

“Misty” because he’s “as helpless as a kitten up a tree”.

Maybe he’ll call it Misty ‘cause he’s Mystified?

This one is like a joke … it’s just different at the end.

Let’s face it, the joke Misty-ed.

The modern orange carrot was developed and stabilised by Dutch growers in the 16-17th century, evidenced from variety names and contemporary art works. A tale, probably apocryphal, has it that the orange carrot was bred in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century to honour William of Orange. before this they were purple, yellow and off-white!

OK, now that I know that Thor is holding an orange and not a coconut, it makes more sense.

The response to the cartoon should have been laughter, not the discussion above.

B+ for the concept but D- for the execution (and that’s a mercy grade).

I recall..that 30 years ago Dairy Queen had “Mister Misty’s” and the one’s I had were green..

I don’t carrot all about the color. But I do wonder if in a moment like the one displayed above, hemmorhoids were named what they were because asteroids was already taken.

Maybe he should have said ‘Squirt’.
